oo2 | Meatbags

Today I caught myself referring to humans as "spaghetti-coded wetware." I guess that's actually a step up from "meatbags." I bet people will still take offense for some reason. Also, I'm out of coffee. This is stupid, where do I get more coffee in this place?

There's no supermarket.

Maybe I could invent a coffee machine that doesn't run out. There has to be a better way of doing this. Also, I need to talk to the doctor, probably. Is that thing ever where it's supposed to be? Jeez, this place is boring. If it weren't for all the... Y'know, it wouldn't be worth getting up in the morning.

Several do exist on my world. Of them, 'Kid Dracula' is most popular.

Do I sound as if I am? The humans have their propaganda, we vampires have ours.

If it serves to make the next generation of humans less afraid of us, I see little harm in it.

That's ridiculous logic. Batman never made anyone less afraid of being mugged.

Yes, but a great many children have an innate desire to emulate their heroes. If that hero happens to be a vampire, they will perhaps think twice of hating them.

Though I admit, it's hardly foolproof.

Revealing our existence to the public has involved a great deal of trial and error, on both sides.

You can tell me. If you want.

There is little to tell, I'm afraid. Vampires have spent thousands of years viewing humans as no more than cattle. Their resentment, and in most cases their hatred, is entirely justified.

[He pauses, though it's brief.]

Of course, my opinion on the matter is somewhat skewed. I've become a very bad example of the classic vampire, in recent centuries. I even came to believe that my death would perhaps mend the rift between our kinds.

But I daresay it was a somewhat narcissistic - and selfish, belief.

Narcissism and self-deception are survival mechanisms. If you really are two-thousand years old, it stands to reason that you'd pick up a few bad habits.

[he chuckles.]

More than just a few, I should think.
